Wasps

Wasps nest removal London

London wasps

Wasp nest removal is the most common issue regarding wasps in London. London wasps are not more dangerous than others. It is just a matter of finding and remove the wasp nest safely.

About wasps

Wasp appearance

  • Up to 1.3 cm in length
  • Black and opaque bright yellow
  • 2 thin long legs hanging down during flight

Behaviour

In spring, a single queen will come out of hibernation and start a nest in cavities including holes in the ground, wall cavities and lofts. Wasps will then expend their nest using chewed wood fibres in a honeycombed pattern.

The nest structure looks like a pale yellowish coloured papier-mâché. It is rarely seen as a perfectly rounded ball hanging off the ceiling. More often it is found stuck along a roof beam.

Infestation

Wasps are part of our wild life. I would normally advise to disregard them unless they pose a threat.

Most of the early wasp nest removals that are carried out are often found in air vents close to windows, on porches or on single storey extensions behind the guttering.

However, most of the time people would only start noticing them at the end of the summer, possibly in September when the nest is at its biggest.

The worst case scenario would be to stumble on them by accident when moving a box in the shed, or when going into the loft. The danger may come as much from the sting as from the panic that may overcome you.

Our wasps nest removal service

In most cases, we do not have a direct access to the wasp nest that may be located within the wall structure, or behind a partition.

In such a case we would treat through the entry point by pushing in pressure powder insecticide that will reach deep into the nest. As a consequence, the nest should be dead the next morning.

This can be dangerous as the nest may come out in strength to defend the nest. This is why nobody should ever carry out a wasp nest removal without adequate protective equipment.

In other instance the nest structure can be reach. Especially when there is a roof hatch allowing us access into the loft. This allow us at time to remove the structure as a whole, or to destroy it without further ado.
